JAMES PATE was born at Burnside Place, Larkhall, on 6th August, 1888.

His parents were John Pate, a Hedger, and Susan Chapman, who were married at Larkhall on 21st October, 1887.
His paternal grandparents were James Pate, a Hedger, and Janet Waddell.
His maternal grandparents were Samuel Chapman, an Engine Keeper, and Susan Wilson.

The 1891 KIRKMUIRHILL Census was taken on 6th April, 1891.

A son, John Pate, was born on 26th April, 1914, at Southfield Cottage, Lesmahagow.
A daughter, Janet Pettigrew Pate, was born on 4th August, 1916, at Thistle Lodge, Lesmahagow.

JAMES PATE joined the Royal Garrison Artillery as Gunner 125825, and went to France after 1915.

JAMES PATE was Killed-In-Action on 16th August, 1917, age 29.

The Medal Rolls Index Card (MIC) for JAMES PATE shows that he was awarded The Victory Medal and The British War Medal. The MIC is undated, which indicates that he went to France after 1915.

The "Soldier's Effects" record shows that his widow Minnie received his Outstanding Pay of £3/4/1, and a War Gratuity of £3/-/-.
