LOUIS McCUTCHEON MUIR and FRANCIS 'FRANK' MUIR were brothers.
LOUIS McCUTCHEON MUIR, Private S/5253, 8th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders, and his brother FRANCIS MUIR, Able Seaman Clyde Z/4779, Drake Battalion, Royal Naval Division, are NOT named on the Larkhall War Memorial.
Both men are named on the Motherwell War Memorial, but LOUIS' name has been mis-spelled as LEWIS M. MUIR.
Their parents were John Muir, a Coal Miner, and Elizabeth McCutcheon, who were married at Larkhall on 2nd November, 1888.
Their paternal grandparents were Robert Muir, a Coal Miner, and Margaret Wilson.
Their maternal grandparents were John McCutcheon, a Coal Miner, and Elizabeth Wyper.
LOUIS McCUTCHEON MUIR was born at 121 Raploch Street, Larkhall, on 3rd May, 1895.
FRANCIS MUIR was born at 148 Raploch Street, Larkhall, on 6th April, 1897.
The 1901 LARKHALL Census was taken on 31st March, 1901.

Military Information for LOUIS McCUTCHEON MUIR
LOUIS joined the 8th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders as Private S/5253, and went to France on 10th May, 1915.
LOUIS 'Died of Wounds' at No 13 General Hospital, Rouen, France, on 9th October, 1915, age 20.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) entry for LOUIS shows that he is buried at BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France. There are 5,777 identified casualties buried at BOULOGNE EASTERN CEMETERY.
LOUIS is commemorated at The Scottish National War Memorial (SNWM) in Edinburgh Castle.
The entry in Soldiers Died in the Great War (SDGW) shows that he was born at Dalserf, Lanarkshire and enlisted in Hamilton.
The Medal Rolls Index Card (MIC) for LOUIS shows that he was awarded The 1914-15 Star Medal, The Victory Medal and The British War Medal. The MIC is dated 10th May, 1915, and shows that he went to France on that date.
The "Soldier's Effects" record shows that his father John received his Outstanding Pay of £3/1/2, and a War Gratuity of £4/-/-. This record shows that he died at No 13 General Hospital, Rouen, France.
LOUIS is listed in the Service Returns of the 8th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He is shown as having Died of Wounds on 9th October, 1915, at Boulogne, France.

Military Information for FRANCIS 'FRANK' MUIR
FRANK MUIR joined the Royal Naval Division, Drake Battalion, Royal Navy Volunteer Reserves as Able seaman Clyde Z/4779.
FRANK was Killed-In-Action on 13th November, 1916, age 19.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) entry for FRANK MUIR shows that he is commemorated at THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. There are 72,338 identified casualties listed on THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.
FRANK is commemorated at The Scottish National War Memorial (SNWM) in Edinburgh Castle.
His Service Record has survived and it shows that he enlisted on 31st May, 1915. His address at that time was 22 Grange Street, Flemington, Motherwell. He disembarked at Marseilles on 20th May, 1916, and was Killed in Action on 13th November, 1916.
The UK Naval Medal and Award Rolls for FRANK MUIR shows that he was awarded The 1914-15 Star Medal, The Victory Medal and The British War Medal.

"Louis Muir, 10th Gordon Highlanders, who was wounded in action, is reported to have died in hospital of his wounds. His parents reside at Armstrong Cottage, Grange Street".

"MUIR - Officially reported killed in action on 13th November, A.B. Frank Muir, R.N.D., aged 19, beloved son of Mr and Mrs Muir, Armstrong Cottage, Grange Street, Motherwell".

"Able Seaman Frank Muir, R.N.D., has been killed in action during the recent operatons. He was only 19 years of age, and was well known in the town. He joined the Forces about a year ago, and was
