GAVIN is a nephew of JOHN LAMBIE, Private 42477, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Scots.

A daughter, Margaret Lambie was born on 23rd November, 1914.
GAVIN joined the 10th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, as Private S/40531, and went to France on 1st August, 1916. This date is recorded on his Service Record which has survived.
GAVIN was Killed-In-Action on 9th April, 1917, age 23.

The 1st reads:
"HAMILTON AND THE WAR.
<snip>
Mrs Lambie, 28 Allanton Rows, has received official notice that her husband, Pte Gavin Lambie, A. and S. H., was killed in action on 9th April. Deceased, who was 23 years of age, was a native of
Larkhall, and previous to enlisting was employed by the Alloa Coal Co., Stirling".
The 2nd reads:
"LAMBIE - Killed in action, on 9th April, Pte Gavin Lambie, A. and S. H., aged 23 years, beloved husband of Janet McLaren, 28 Allanton Rows, by Larkhall.
'He went at the call of duty,
His country, dear, to save,
Far in a foreign country,
He now fills a hero's grave'
'Only those who have lost are able to tell,
The pain of heart at not saying farewell'".
A Family Gravestone in Larkhall Cemetery (GAVIN's mother) is inscribed:
"In Loving Memory of
ELIZABETH FIDDES LAMBIE
Who Died 23 Oct 1926
Aged 51 Years
Erected by Matthew Lambie"
